I have the honor to transmit, for
the information of the Right Honorable the Secretary of State for War, the accompanying copy of a Dispatch, of the day
received from Mr Wade, Her Majesty's Chargé
d'Affaires at Pekin, and to report that I have placed in readiness to embark at a moment's notice a Detach-
ment
of Troops to proceed to Amoy, should their services be required.

Compliance with Mr Wade's suggestion, I shall send by the first opportunity Lieut. Colonel De Butts, Royal Engineers, to Amoy, with instructions to
